Back To School Styles

If you are heading back to school or have a loved one that is, we know the feeling of new classes, new wardrobe, new you!

Now more than ever, university students are embracing self-expression and personal style through jewelry. Dainty necklaces, statement earrings, or something that might remind students that they are loved and doing an amazing job, are what we are seeing students lean towards. Multipurpose jewelry and timeless pieces are trends we see students leaning towards during their studies. A classic hoop or a simple pendant and perfect to wear while hanging out with friends on the weekends and writing essays during the week. Whether you're shopping for yourself or your favourite academic, SMJ has the perfect ideas for back-to-school.

We interviewed three university students attending schools across BC, and asked them to pick out their favourite SMJ back-to-school jewelry. Let's hear what they have to say

Anika, 25

Anika holds a Masters Degree from the University of Calgary, but is truly a BC girl at heart. Whenever she comes back home, she loves going to her favourite restaurant, Nuba!

"Following the completion of my Master’s degree means I’ve spent hours doing job interviews in the past few months. I wear my SJM pieces not only as an essential part of the finishing touch for my interview outfits, but as a good-luck charm to remind myself that the right opportunity can be just around the corner!"

Keeping it simple and stylish, Anika is wearing the 2" Alex Gold Studs  and the Heather Necklace in Gold

We would layer this look with a pair of Cassie Studs in Pearl, and the Franz Necklace to complete this outfit.  The Franz pendant was named after Sarah’s father and was designed to represent family. A reminder that, no matter how far we are away from each other we are always under the same sky.

Liv, 19

Liv is a third year business student studying at the Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria. When she isn’t working, she loves spending time with her loved ones. Playing spike ball with music and a few drinks is a favourite sunny day activity. She also loves exploring the city and trying out new places to eat with her boyfriend.

“SMJ pieces are perfect for ANY occasion and make me feel so beautiful and put together. I love styling them for a girls night out and for day-to-day things too, like going to work. The pieces are really high quality. With your purchase they include a little card explaining how to properly care for your jewelry. I’ve always been a silver jewelry girl and SMJ has so many stunning options to choose from! I truly cannot recommend them enough. Their pieces are so elegant, detailed, and versatile - it’s so much fun styling them with an outfit and makes me feel so confident!”

Shining bright with her new pieces, Liv is wearing the Christine Studs in Rhodium, the Made of Stars Trio in Rhodium and the Made of Stars Necklace in Rhodium.

We love the Made of Stars Necklace designed to remind us that we are all made of stardust and shine brightly together with our unique characteristics. We would pair this necklace with the Heather Necklace, pearls are known to be a powerful metaphor for the transformation that comes from growth when overcoming hardships. The perfect gift for any student.

Cait, 19

Cait is a Health Sciences student at Simon Fraser University. Cait's interest in this field stems from her passion to improve the overall health and well-being of communities, to serve others and help them live their best lives. Outside of school, Cait is a huge music buff, and can often be seen playing her guitar and scoping out record shops for her vinyl collection.

Cait loves that SMJ allows her to express her personal style while matching the essence of different settings.

"SMJ has a sophisticated yet universal style which first caught my attention. I could envision myself wearing these pieces in a professional work setting as well as a day at the beach."

Always classy, Cait is wearing the Kelly Hoops in Gold and the Leo 20 mm Hoops in Gold

Love this pairing? SMJ would style in the Licia and the Fuerté Necklace. Fuerté in Spanish translates to Strength, designed to remind us that there is strength in our tears, the Fuerté necklace symbolizes rising through hardships.
